Product Placement

I love Tiger. I'm a huge fan and I love to watch him play. A long time ago I signed up for his newsletter on TigerWoods.com. It's actually really interesting and "appears" to actually be written by him, but of course there is no way to know for sure.

I had to laugh a little at this month's installment however. I have to imagine that he gets a little tired of having to slip endorsements into everything he does. Check out the following excerpt:

"When I was in Tucson last week, I did a little shopping and noticed my new "Gatorade Tiger" in a store. Must admit it was pretty cool and weird; first my own video game, and now a sports drink. A lot of personal time went into the creation of this product and I am proud of all three of the initial flavors we have created, especially Red Drive."

First of all, can you really see Tiger just putzing around at WalMart or some equivalent store? That thought alone made me chuckle.

Beyond that, I hope golf never gets to the NASCAR endorsement level. We already have plenty of guys wearing multiple logos on their person and golf bags. I really don't want to get to the point where we have to hear how the "Verizon Wireless wedges felt great today and my NAPA Autoparts caddy made some great decisions out there....."

Somehow I think that that would start to chip away at the elegance of golf, but that's just me.
